On the entire 236 km long route you will experience an extraordinarily varied landscape: at the beginning the Saône plain, then the wooded hills of the Jura, and towards the end of your journey the Rhine valley.

The northern section of the canal, which used to connect Mulhouse with Strasbourg, is interrupted in parts. Navigation is only possible again from Rhinau (see canal guide No. 4, Alsace-Lorraine / Alsace-Lorraine). Show Less
