In writing this journal we first set out only to describe our passage routes and anchorages, the weather and tides, our boating adventures and the boating mishaps we have learned to avoid, how we provision the boat for a long trip, and how two amateur fishermen learnt to feed themselves from the sea.

But in describing the attractions of this passage - the scenery, the sights, the people and some of its largely neglected history, we hope we have also conveyed just a little of the uniqueness of this particular kind of paradise that is the northern coastline of Australia .

'Around the Top is packed full of interesting anchorages, fishing information and has a great narrative to "glue" it all together...the descriptions and mud maps will be of interest to anyone contemplating doing this trip and the book is worth buying just for the detailed information on fishing...the cruising narrative is handled well and never becomes boring as humour creeps into the stories regularly! The observations on Aboriginal art and communities are interesting as are the historical digressions...a very worthwhile book that has extended our knowledge of our northern coastline.' - Cruising Helmsman
