The 1965-66 Camplire Field Notes of Desert Exploration in Western Australia.

This is Peter Muir's sixteen month diary of his exploits as a dogger and his 4WD exploration work for the Agricultural Protection Board of a little known virgin area of Western Australia in 1965 and 1966. It gives a wonderful insight into the day to day experiences of one of the last Western Desert Explorers.

His writing style captures the Essence and Soul of a Wilderness Area, which only a few can appreciate and even fewer can put into words. Written over a long period of sustained isolation, Peter weaves throughout his 468 page work, the history and locations of the all time Great Explorers like Giles and Canning. His writings paint vivid pictures of local identities from Wiluna and those he meets in the course of his work along the No1 Rabbit Proof Fence as far north as Jiggalong.

He sensitively portrays his contact with Aboriginal people, their association with the land, their sites and water holes. His work is so vivid and vital, that as an Armchair Reader one shares with feeling, his journey, and spirituality. Those more inclined, can trace his expeditions and locate his well detailed campsite blazes. His photos are unique, and like his works, are rare.
