About Us

Australia’s favourite map shop.

The world's most awesome peddler of nautical charts, maps and books plus loads of other stuff vaguely related to travel, boating and the outdoors.

Born on a battlefield, the son of a village blacksmith, Chris matured quickly as a youth and, by age fifteen, he was already a respected warrior who had participated in the destruction of the Aquilonian outpost of Venarium. After its demise, he was struck by wanderlust and began his adventures, encountering skulking monsters, evil wizards, tavern wenches, and beautiful princesses. He roamed throughout the nations as a thief, outlaw, mercenary, and pirate. As he grew older, he began commanding larger units of men and escalating his ambitions, eventually seizing the crown of the tyrannical king of Aquilonia, the most powerful kingdom of the Hyborian Age after strangling the previous ruler on the steps of the throne.

Where would we be without Caitlin? She is our multi-tasking wonder woman who is in charge of the commercial shipping side of our business. Fielding hundreds of queries each day, she is responsible for providing ships with all the charts and publications they require, frequently with great urgency. Caitlin has travelled around Europe and, if we are ever crazy enough to give her some time off, would love to add to her overseas adventures.

Sally is our meticulously neat chart corrector. She has a wealth of knowledge in this area, having previously worked for many years in the cartographic office of Marine & Harbours. She is responsible for keeping our huge range of nautical charts up to date. If you sign up for our Chart Correcting Course, Sally will be the one imparting her very valuable knowledge to you. She has travelled extensively throughout Australia and also overseas through Europe and Asia.

Pally hates change. She refuses to leave the country in case she encounters different cultures.

Peter found his dream job late in life and has enjoyed every minute at The Chart & Map Shop. After many years at the helm, he has now entirely handed over the reins to the (big) kids and can now be found travelling the globe, cruising the French canals, or relaxing by the beach, reading the paper and having a coffee and generally just enjoying a well earned retirement!

Lynne, Peter's wife, has worked for an international airline and an Australian port authority but most recently taught English to overseas students until The Chart & Map Shop took over her life. She has travelled extensively in Europe and has a particularly good knowledge of France following on from an interest since her school days. Lynne works in the shop on Saturdays, but otherwise can be found travelling or relaxing by the beach with husband, paper and coffee!
