Albany is an exquisite coastal city steeped in tradition and history. It is home to more than 30,000 people and one of those residents, Richard Piggott, brings to his readers a beautifully compiled account of Lower Kalgan, one of the states earliest-settled rural districts.

Each chapter delves into vastly different aspects to the areas formation, from the first landowners, the tearooms, the struggle for local schools, rumours of local ghosts and the rise into the 1960s and onwards. Richard Piggott lets us take a sneak peak into family diaries, personal letters and local records, all of which exemplify a thoroughly authentic and personal read.

Richard Piggott, was born and raised in Lower Kalgan, growing up and becoming a part of the important heritage he has helped preserve. After moving away for a brief period of time, he has settled in Albany for the past fifteen years raising his own family and working for the Blue Gum Tree Plantation .

'This book then attempts to fill a void; to record something of Lower Kalgan's past before what is currently known is lost.' - Richard Piggott

Such a lovely store

It is always a great experience popping into The Chart and Map Shop, an emporium of information on all manner of things aquatic and historical. I found this wonderful account of early settler history around Albany. I love the respect paid to the past by The Chart ancd Map Shop. Thanks for all you do.
