A Young Voice From the Parmelia's Voyage

Alex Kopp's illustrated book for readers aged nine to twelve tells the story of the Parmelia, the ship that carried some of the first European settlers to the Swan River Colony in 1829. It follows young Joseph Daly and his family as they leave England hopeful for a new life, only for the voyage to take a difficult turn.

Produced with the Western Australian Museum and grounded in historical research, the book carries themes of hope, courage, loss and resilience through a child's perspective on a real historical event. It suits young readers with an interest in Australian colonial history and families exploring the state's early European settlement together.
