Northwest Territories & Nunavut by ITMB

Canada's far north is enormous in area but remarkably lightly populated, and this double sided map covers two of its three territories: the Northwest Territories on one side and Nunavut, Canada's newest political entity, celebrating its 25th year of existence, on the other. The Yukon, the third territory, is covered separately on its own ITMB title.

The Northwest Territories side runs from the 60th parallel to the Arctic Ocean, an area mostly inaccessible except by air, with normal road access coming from Alberta via a paved highway to the capital, Yellowknife, shown here on its own city inset. A relatively new gravel road connects Inuvik to the small Arctic Ocean community of Tuktoyaktuk, reachable only via the Yukon and the Dempster Highway. Coverage also extends into a portion of the eastern Yukon and the westernmost reaches of Nunavut, taking in Great Bear and Great Slave Lakes and the High Arctic islands.

The reverse side covers Nunavut, an area larger than all of Western Europe yet home to only around 30,000 people, with no road network to speak of outside its scattered small towns. An inset of the capital, Iqaluit, on Baffin Island's Frobisher Bay, is included, along with the historic route of the Northwest Passage. Printed in colour on both sides with a full index and legend, this map measures 27 x 39 inches and stands as a thorough single sheet reference for two of the most remote regions on the planet.
