SOLAS ranks among the oldest maritime treaties in force. Its first version was adopted in 1914, prompted by the sinking of the Titanic and the loss of more than 1,500 lives, and four further versions followed. The current version, adopted in 1974 and in force since 1980, marks its 50th anniversary with this publication, which honours its place as a leading international instrument for maritime safety.

This edition presents a consolidated text of the Convention, its 1988 Protocol, and all amendments in force as of 1 July 2024, together with the unified interpretations of SOLAS regulations approved by the Maritime Safety Committee.
