Bringing Nature Back into the Urban Landscape

Nadina Galle looks at how cities around the world are using a combination of green infrastructure and technology to cope with heatwaves, flooding, wildfire risk and the mental health toll of urban life. Drawing on interviews and her own research, she describes projects that pair sensors, data and artificial intelligence with trees, wetlands and green roofs, an approach she calls the Internet of Nature.

The book argues that reconnecting city dwellers with the natural world is a practical response to a changing climate rather than a luxury, and it moves between reportage and personal reflection instead of reading as a dry policy text.

Galle holds a doctorate in ecological engineering, is a fellow at MIT's Senseable City Lab and was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. The book suits readers interested in urban planning, climate adaptation and the future of city life.
